Tune : Watching Speedracer

April 15: I arrived in Adelaide super early in the morning and surprised Mel at her work. It was so awesome to see her again!! Distracted her for a few hours until it was time for the stores and such to open and I went to explore the city. Adelaide is an easy city to get around and it didn't take long for me to figure out where everything is (the city centre is really small and even for me, with no sense of direction, easy to navigate). I didn't do much that first day, but I did wander through Rundle Mall and the Botanical Gardens, before heading back to Mel's work so we could go to her home. I don't remember what exactly we did that first afternoon besides general catching up, but it probably included rewatching Heroes and watching a movie.

Famous Rundle balls in the mall

I don't even know...

April 16: Went with Mel to her work and distracted her again for a few hours before heading in to the city for touristy stuff. Went to Light Vision (a look-out) first, then I did a guided tour of the Parliament House, a guided tour of the Art Gallery, went to the Immigration Museum and after that it was time to pick up Mel from work again. Together we went to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the museum (my geekiness, let me show you it) which was really impressive.

The only piece of Pop Art they had in the gallery, but at least it is a Warhol <3

Weirdest piece of art ever!

Funny thing Mel found in the National Geographic shop

April 17: This was Mel's first day off work while I was there so together with her mum and her adorable niece Shae we went away for the day to a little place called Victor Harbour. First we had yummy lunch (salad bar, yay!) and then we went to some sort of exhibition/museum. After that we were heading to Granite Island and on our way saw camels on the beach. Camels on the beach, lol! Anyway, Granite Island is known for its penguins, there's even a sign in front of the bridge that says there should be about 2000. So we went and looked for them and got all excited thinking we found one until it flew away... Yeah, last time I checked penguins don't fly, fail. Eventually we did see penguins but they were in captivity and the people there told us there were only like 350 left. No wonder we didn't find any ourselves.

How cool is Mel?

Camels on the beach!

Shae and I

Not a penguin :(

In the evening Mel made pancakes, yum!

My uhm creative side...

April 18: The morning was spent pretty lazy (sleeping in, watching TV - I love travelling ;)). In the afternoon though we met up with Lauren and her friend Emma (it was so great to finally meet Lauren!) to see the movie 17 Again in cinema. It was a great movie and I don't just say that because Zac looked really good in ;) I think all of us had a surprisingly great time seeing it. Btw, we saw a preview for Merlin coming to Australia during the trailers. A preview for a TV-show (and an awesome one at that) on the big screen! That was really cool.

Emma, Mel, Lauren and I. This was supposed to be a picture with all of us doing something crazy but apparently for most of us that just meant making signs with our fingers... Mel's the only one doing it right

Wow, the string's white already, it must be snowing! ;)

Those penguins are the same as the ones that show up sometimes around Nelson, where I grew up! They aren't super common there but there's often some sick ones that get taken to the children's zoo my mother works at to get cared for and then freed.

There's a big colony of them on Taiaroa Head near Dunedin though, and you can view them there, but I have no idea if it's year round or just in certain seasons? There's an albatross colony there as well, but I only saw... two albatrosses fly past, one each for the two times I went there. There's usually seals on the beach and sometimes sea lions though, as well as colonies of other seabirds and things, so it can be quite interesting.

LOL I didn't even think of that but you're right. That means it's always snowing in Australia! D:

I saw one in the wild in Tasmania!! It was crossing the road, it was adorable.

That sounds so interesting, I have to see if it's a specific time of the year or if I have a chance to see them when I am there :)

It was pretty cool ^_^ Though I petted llamas and that was even more awesome; they're surprisingly soft.

Weird stuff, yes. I don't know why I always nearly bump into the walking sandwiches or something o.O Maybe it's just Australia...

That thing you called the "weirdest piece of art ever" looks like the ginormous killer cold virus from Fringe.

Woobie penguins! :):)

I am not following Fringe anymore, so I wouldn't know... But the picture is of a giant bright green rhino stuck to a wall by its feet o.O

Adelaide's nice - especially the architecture. I'm very fond of the Museum with it's variety of stuffed animals and the Room of Spears. :)

And Merlin is on ch 10 now - 3rd ep this Sunday at 6.30pm!

:)

I really enjoyed the city and especially the North Shore buildings were (obviously) beautiful.

I only just saw this, sorry for the late comment!

Wow, you actually found semi-interesting things to do in Adelaide. I've been to the museum and the art gallery (the latter a few times) but I've never had tours, nor have I been in the old part of the library or Parliament House! Guess I still have a lot to do on North Terrace.

That non-penguin is a Cormorant, I believe! They have to stand on rocks to dry out their wings because they don't have oil in their feathers like other birds.

I've seen camels on beaches lots of times! I take it that you haven't!

Emma made me watch HSM2 last night and she has HSM3 on loan from the library now too. I think she's trying to make me into a Zac Efron fan. >.

Better late than never? LOL I am way behind though, I should really catch up with my other Adelaide post (giving you more ideas of what you should see/do in the city :P) and Tasmania >.<

I've only started doing tours of stuff recently. Before I always preferred browsing around myself but I realised that the tours give you information you otherwise likely won't obtain, and you can always browse by yourself afterwards.

I've never seen camels before! Well in a zoo maybe, and once in Australia lol

HSM2 is horrible >.< But HSM3 is really, really awesome. You might want to give the new TV-show "Glee" a try btw, it's a little older version of HSM.
