March 4: I went to 'Steve Irwin's' Australia Zoo. To be honest I didn't expect a whole lot from it but it was surprisingly cool. The zoo itself was fairly small but there were different animals than in the zoos in the Netherlands so that was nice and also they had special parts where you could pet koalas and kangaroos which was just awesome. At one point I saw this little kangaroo a little further away and I just sat down next to it to cuddle it for a while which was just amazing!
They also had a cool show with various animals amongst which of course crocodiles. And several animals were brought around the park throughout the day to see closer-up and I even fed elephants!! I never did that at the zoos back home. All in all it was quite awesome.
Oh, and on the way back I say really cool mountains from the train. Some of the were normal (though bare) mountains, others were like snippets of rock, only really high.
I uploaded a ton of pictures from my day HERE but a selection can be found behind the cut.

The Irwin family!

There were a lot of lizards etc roaming free in the zoostealing food from the other animals

Dingo

Koalas are so cute <3

Pretty sunset
March 5: I didn't do anything, Came home very late the previous day because of crappy public transport so I slept in, answered e-mails and spent the rest of the day watching lots of TV-shows I was behind on. I love not having to work so I can do this on a week day ^_^
March 6: I went to Warner Brothers Movie World on the Gold Coast. Was kinda wary about it at first as I'd already been to the one in Germany and at the time that was a major disappointment (I know now that was because we went too soon after its opening and half of the attractions were still under maintenance etc). And while it wasn't Disneyland or even the Efteling (my favourite theme park in the Netherlands). It was pretty damn awesome.
Saw a lot of famous characters and yes got my picture taken with amongst others: Tweety, Bugs Bunny, Sylvester, Shrek, Batman and Austin Powers. I am normally not one to buy the pictures they make in the park for you (overpriced and not worth it) but they had a great deal going on and I caved and got a bunch of those.
There was one bigger 'musical' show in a theater centering around the major Looney Tunes characters and other than that there was a stunt show and there were a bunch of cool short shows in the main street throughout the day. There was one featuring Batman and Scarecrow and another one where the Scooby gang was filming a video clip and there 'surprisingly' was a ghost trying to mess everything up, just like in the cartoon series ;) Lastly there was a parade at the end of the day, featuring all these characters and more famous WB ones. Oh, and they showed movie trailers on a big screen in the main square amongst which Watchmen and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. ashdgla;gjgafga;f I had no clue a trailer for the latter had even been released yet, eeeeh!
Because I was so busy watching shows and also because there weren't a whole of rides I ended up only going in three rides. A Scooby-Doo rollercoaster which was really cool as it suddenly went backwards and then just round and round and round. A Shrek 4D movie (which means, when someone sneezes the audience gets wet, lol!) and a Batman ride in which we were recruited to take out escaped villains such as the joker.
Best part of the park to me though was the way it looked. There were awesome Shrek and Harry Potter store and even one called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Besides that there were lots of fancy Hollywood cars throughout the park and many buildings that could've come straight out of western movies. Loved it.
A selection of pictures of my day below, but more can be found HERE.

First let's get some of the pictures with characters out of the way

Date: 2009-03-08 12:53 am (UTC)Yeah that's awesome. Sometimes I have the tendency to have too high expectations and then I am disappointed. Glad it's the other way around now :)

Date: 2009-03-08 06:06 am (UTC)OOOOOH I WENT TO MOVIE WORLD IN 2006!
I can't remember watching the Batman show! ;__;
OMG DID YOU SIT THE SUPERMAN RETURNS RIDE!?

Date: 2009-03-08 07:10 am (UTC)I suppose they change the shows around at least every year? I know Disney does it a couple of times a year :)
I saw that ride, didn't go in it though

Date: 2009-03-09 03:55 pm (UTC)Yeah that makes sense.. Or else maybe they didn't change the show, I just missed the Batman part. Because I've seen the Scooby Doo one!
Aw why didn't you! It was exhilarating!
Not the rollar coaster type?

Date: 2009-03-08 06:41 am (UTC)I'll take a kookaburra, dingo and koala to go, please.
Are elephant's trunks slimy with snot? Always wondered.
Huh. I know they're probably not, but all the costumes at that theme park look...cheap. And fake-muscle lulzy.

Date: 2009-03-08 07:11 am (UTC)Dude all the animals looked so cute and fluffy (well aside from the lizards and crocs maybe) I wanted to take all of them with me!
The trunk was wet but I think that was because he had watermelon before I fed it, not because it was snot. Didn't think of snot at the time though uhm... *goes to wash hands again even though it was several days ago*
Haha I know.

Date: 2009-03-08 10:28 pm (UTC)lol Nah, just me being emotional. I'd bawww all over that zoo.
Mwahaha. Maybe elephant snot is good for the skin.

Date: 2009-03-09 05:09 am (UTC)(Glasshouse Mountains - they are amazing, especially when you get closer. There are several climbing/walking tour-y things that they do, but I'd pass right now given the weather!)
WOO and HOO on Movie World being more awesome than expected. It got such crap reviews from anyone who went when it first opened that I've just never bothered... and oh yeah, btw, they do elephant feedings every day at the Zoo. Forgot to mention that ;)
:)

Date: 2009-03-10 12:17 am (UTC)Movie World >>>>> Dreamworld to be honest :\ Though if you get a chance, Disney is still 100 times better.
That's alright, it was a nice surprise to not know about the feeding beforehand :)
